Precision MicroFab worked closely with a medical device manufacturer to build a microscopic prototype clevis fastener system. It consists of three minuscule parts- the clevis, clevis pin and tang. The clevis started as 125 micron diameter Hymu 80 Alloy wire. Precision MicroFab used an excimer laser to machine the 50 micron slot on one axis and, on a perpendicular axis, we drilled a 50 micron hole for the clevis pin. The clevis pin was 32 micron diameter tungsten wire. The tang was 304 stainless steel wire, with a 100 micron starting diameter. We carefully flattened the tang wire to 30 microns and then laser drilled another 50 micron hole for the clevis pin. Then, we very gently aligned all three parts, inserted the wire and laser trimmed it flush to the clevis. |
